Review
DVD2SVCD is a bundle of free software that converts your DVD discs and folders into VCD and SVCD image files. It has been designed for both the novice and the expert user, mixing a simple 3-step ripping process with a long list of professional settings and options for a fully customized conversion. For this software to work properly, you will need to have a commercial MPEG encoder installed.
DVD2SVCD is a free application that works together with a number of other non-commercial tools, already included in DVD2SVCD’s installation package. However, this software needs an MPEG encoder to create the necessary VCD/SVCD compatible video files, therefore you will need to have already installed in your system one of the following tools: Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE SP), TMPG Encoder, or Canopus ProCoder. You will also need to have access to an image-recording tool to burn your discs.
In a way, DVD2SVCD is a frontend application, which makes easier for you to go through the different stages of the whole conversion process without opening and closing different tools. Once all the drivers and tools are properly installed, DVD2SVCD will become the only software you need to create your VCDs and SVCDs. The interface is far from colourful and attractive, but it is effective and full of professional settings for high-quality results. You can customize every step of the process, though sometimes a deep knowledge of how video conversion processes work is required (Multiplexer, DGIndex, Frameserve, Matrix, etc.).
However, if what you are looking for is a straightforward conversion from one of your DVDs to a SVCD, just will be guided right from the start through a very simple conversion process. Just select a disc (or VIDEO_TS folder), the audio and subtitles you want to have in your VCD/SVCD, and press the conversion button. DVD2SVCD will produce a high-quality replica of your video that will fit in standard recordable CDs. |
